I was thinking that the cliffhanger involving Maggie and
Robson must have been difficult for June Murphy to do. In my mind it’s a really
quite creepy and effective cliffhanger and it would be easy to believe that it’s
probably the best that the episodes going to get. We get more of Victoria’s
exit preparation with a small scene between Victoria and Jamie where Jamie is
trying to convince her that things will be sorted out in the end and they will
be on their merry way. Victoria isn’t convinced and it isn’t helped when she is
talking to the Doctor moments later and she’s listing off all the evils that
they have encountered and the Doctor chips in with Yeti and I thought that the
argument was already lost without the Doctor added to the defeat. This is a
very despondent Victoria and it’s not one that we have seen before.
There is a moment where Jamie thinks that Victoria has died
and it’s such a lovely moment because it shows how close they have become but
that is that main thing about this episode. The seaweed story is sort of little
interest to me as Victoria’s sudden yet noticeable mood change is much more
interesting. Don’t get me wrong there is a bit more action to the seaweed
menace than we have had in previous episodes but to be honest it got sunk by
the few scenes that Victoria is clearly contemplating her future.
The fact that I can only really say that the departure of a
companion is the most exciting thing that I can get from these audios at the
moment. This has to be the weakest episode of the story so far and that is
because the main plot of the story is the least exciting thing about it at the
moment. Unlike the Abominable Snowmen where I really couldn’t wait to get to
the end of the story, I don’t feel the same way as I think that what this story
has that the first Yeti story didn’t is that they’ve taken the time to develop
the companions.
